The hamlet of Peterboro is located in the Town of Smithfield, in the center of beautiful Madison County, New York.
The Gerrit Smith Estate is located on the corner of Oxbow Road and Peterboro Road (Main street) in Peterboro. The Visitors Center parking entrance is off of Oxbow Road 100 yards north of the intersection.
coming from Syracuse, follow route 92 through Manlius and on towards
Cazenovia. Turn left onto route 20 and follow route 20 to Cazenovia.
Continue through Caz to just past the Sunoco gas station, where Fenner
road will bear off to the left. Follow Fenner road 9 miles, where it
will "T" with Pleasant Valley road. Make a left and follow Pleasant
Valley north, go past the village green and onto Oxbow road, where the
next driveway on your right is the Visitor Center.
If coming across the Thruway, get off at Exit 34 (Canastota). Make a left and follow Peterboro street south through Canastota. Cross Route 5 and continue south on Oxbow road for 10 miles, through Clockville and up the hill, past the Holstein monument and into Peterboro. The Visitor Center entrance will be on your left before you get to the village green.
From the South, come across Route 20 to Morrisville and turn north on Cedar street, which will soon become Swamp road. Continue north, past the Morrisville-Eaton High School, and on to Peterboro. You will enter Peterboro at the east end of the village green. At the stop sign, turn left onto Peterboro Road (Main street) and go to the other end of the green. Turn north onto Oxbow Road, and the Visitors Center entrance is about 100 yards ahead on the right.
